"This series has been painted together. My reaction to all of the thunder in the news today, the way I am feeling about myself and my children. When I am looking at TV lately, this is a reaction. The Black Lives Matter demonstrations. I thought it was something wrong with me. So I painted this thinking of the roads that the others had to walk on in order to survive. While I painted this series I listened to some music that has meant a lot to me over the years "A Change Is Gonna Come" by Sam Cooke and Aretha Franklin. Remember the first line? "I was born by the river in a little tent". Both versions made me cry cry cry." H. K.
