Ken Ryan is a perfectionist at heart. He works and reworks his painting for weeks and often months at a time. The results speak for themselves. Light and air that you can see and smell. His models, often his family, live and breathe on the board before you. He wills you into seeing the world that he so cherishes in all its glory before him.
Ken Ryan says, "Painting is a very personal process. it's something deep inside you that drives you along and sometimes it can torture you. I appreciate and love classical realism but you can have it so polished that it leans towards a photo and not a painting. There is a fine line. You want the edges of your painting to breathe and have life sometimes soft other times harder."
George Bernard Shaw said, “You use a glass mirror to see your face; you use works of art to see your soul."
