Hawa Kaba

Born in Burkina Faso, Hawa Kaba creates mixed media paintings that reflect her West African and Muslim heritage and her life in Canada as a single mother of five. She uses photographs, printed material, paint and found objects to evoke the landscape and culture of Africa, the richness of women’s lives, the struggle for social justice and her personal memories and experiences as a child in West Africa.

Kaba’s work is held in the Canadian Union Of Public Employees (CUPE) art collection in Ottawa and by the Canadian High Commission in Paris, France, and the City of Ottawa art collection.

“When I am painting its pure joy for me. My work as an artist is to be an inspiration to other African women who have traditionally been excluded from creative endeavors.” Hawa Kaba
