Nidification is the act of building a nest. Monique Martin has tapped into this most basic, primal and primitive urge to nestle, cocoon, to be safe and sheltered. When you think about it, all species -- humans included -- nidificate.
Monique Martin is a Saskatoon artist who uses the symbol of the nest to observe and examine everything from economic crisis to family life. Bank statements, maps from mining companies, vintage ledgers and business journals are all fodder for her dynamic three dimensional nests .
A multi-disciplinary artist and art educator, Monique has exhibited her printmaking, paintings, sculptures, installations and book works in solo, invited and juried group exhibitions in eight countries. Her works are held in more than twenty-five public and private collections internationally. "We all build our nests in different ways to reflect our lives and the basic materials and resources at hand," Martin says. "Then the nest changes as we change and grow."
