Quebec City artist Julie St-Amand explores urban architectural landscapes. St-Amand works with encaustic, allowing her to play between the layers of paint as well as representing the aging urban landscape.  Fascinated by surfaces of damage and wear, St-Amand explores the cityscape in search of the beauty in the derelict. Her work is an encounter with disaster areas, corroded buildings, aged and weathered walls and rusted architectural structures.

St- Amand states that, “elements of the urban landscape inspire me because they make up the mysterious story of our existing cities and the passage of time.”

Born in Moncton, New Brunswick, Julie St-Amand has lived in Quebec for over twenty years. She began her studies in Visual Arts in Montreal and made a one-year stay abroad to study at the Graduate School of Fine Arts in Quimper, France. She now lives in Quebec City where she completed her Masters in 2005. St-Amand’s art work has been exhibited throughout Canada and is included in many private and public collections including those of Loto Quebect and Desjardins.

=================
