Flux is an expression of the bittersweet transitions of life, offering a range of dreamlike scenes and portraits of many sentiments. An exhibit of works that evoke an observation of people and herself that displays vulnerability and authenticity paired with the surreal and whimsy that so easily identifies a piece by this Canadian phenom.
Over the years her practice has evolved from seriously accomplished and formal paintings with a nod to the masters to a mature bending and melding of the modern with the classical. Viewing one of her pieces you sense immediately her uncanny ability to imbue a figure with a verisimilitude both physical and psychological. Kristy’s ability to convey such intimacy and honesty with her portraits and the observer, to stir an emotion within, is a sincere act of artistic intuition, which has allowed her to blossom into an internationally recognized and collected artist.
Gordon celebrates the close of this year with an Exceptional Merit award from the Portrait Society of America for her portrait, Star Child. Other numerous awards include a finalist for the 2013 Kingston Prize for Canadian portraiture, the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant, and an Award of Excellence from the Portrait Society of America.
She has been widely featured in numerous magazines, art publications, radio and television shows, including Fine Art Connoisseur’s Three to Watch and Highlighting Women Artists, The Artist’s Magazine’s 28th Annual Art Competition, Southwest Art’s Emerging Artist: 21 Under 31 and Bravo!’s Star Portraits.
