Nocturne Festival VI

Schedule of events:

Thursday, July 3rd, Free Dark Sky Party and Lecture

Peter Watson  "The Dark Side of the Sun" 8:00 - 9:00pm

Peter Watson will give a free lecture about the Sun. The Sun is responsible for all life on Earth, and we fold our lives round the total predictability of sunrise and sunset. But in reality the Sun is unpredictable. As our understanding has increased, we are beginning to realize that the sun’s erratic behavior could potentially have devastating consequences for our civilization.

Julian Avenue Star Party : Aprox 9:30 - 11:00pm
After the sun sets a family friendly "streetwide star party" will be held on Julian Ave. featuring telescopes, videos and star viewing courtesy members of RASC.  This evening star party will be held on the first private street in Canada to vote to turn off their streetlights for this night sky event!

Thursday, July 10th, Free Dark Sky Party and Free Lecture

Robert Dick, "LEDs the Good, the Bad and the Ugly" 8:00-9:00pm

We have read about the benefits of LED lighting from the proponents. But as every engineer knows, with every benefit there are potential problems.LEDs have the potential to solve most of these problems, but can't we use our present streetlights to solve these problems? What makes LEDs so different?

Star Party : Aprox 9:30 - 11:00pm
After the sun sets a family friendly "sidewalk star party" will be held in front of Cube featuring telescopes, videos and star viewing courtesy members of RASC.
