Ephemeral Landscapes

To look at Barbara Gamble’s work is to feel enveloped in the serenity and beauty of nature.

“It is obvious from her paintings that Barbara has spent hours just sitting, looking and observing the play of light, the breath of trees, those subtle movements in nature,” says Cube Gallery curator Don Monet. “There is this uncanny feeling that you are there, within that very scene she has painted. Her work is mesmerizing.”

An award winning painter of national acclaim, Barbara Gamble uses oil paints combined with multiple layers of coloured wax to create luminous surfaces.  An exhibition of her work, Ephemeral Landscapes will be presented at Cube Gallery May 6-25.

“I have always taken my motivation from natural history, the Canadian landscape spanning urban and wilderness settings, as well as my concern for the environment,” she says. “As a source of inspiration, the natural world is boundless. It is always changing, evolving, and responding to humanity.”

Barbara’s artwork is held in numerous prestigious corporate, public and private collections.  Barbara has a long and extensive history of activism on community committees and boards of directors. She is currently serving on the Ottawa Art Gallery’s Firestone Collection Committee, and the Founding and Executive Committee of the Marion Dewar Scholarship Fund. She was recently nominated to serve on the National Board of CARFAC.
