Rebecca Mason & Reid McLachlan

Chelsea artists Rebecca Mason & Reid McLachlan discuss their recent work for the show  “Warmth” currently being shown at Cube Gallery.  The artists will give a short presentation on the paintings in the exhibition and address the challenges of producing works for a themed show.

Chelsea resident Reid McLachlan has become a fixture in the Outaouais art scene over the last 20 years with his distinctive style of oil painting. In his paintings Reid plumbs the intricate depths of what it means to be human. These fictional narratives ask the big questions about faith, identity and mortality, and although these are personal stories they also speak to the hopes, worries and fears in all of us.  Reid has had major solo shows at many public galleries in the Ottawa/Gatineau region including Galerie Montcalm, Karsh Masson Gallery, Art-Image, L'Imagier and the Ottawa School of Art. In the fall of 2009 Reid was featured on the Bravo! program Star Portraits where he painted the portrait of Senator Roméo Dallaire.

Rebecca Mason from Chelsea Quebec, Canada, studied at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto where she first developed her unique painting style. “Responding to my environment as an expressive colourist, I use nature as my inspiration. It is somewhat like writing a poem on the page using paint and brushes as the vehicle to capture my sense of place."  These selected new acrylic abstracts are a precursor to the new direction she's chosen using the challenge of switching her medium as her creative catalyst. She is passionate about art, canoeing and the environment and explores these subjects through her painting, writing, film and speaking projects. A professional artist for 25 years Rebecca's work is in private collections internationally and can be seen locally at Cube Gallery.

In 2011 she did an one on one interview from her studio and on the water with Rapid Media TV.
