Jennifer Lawton's OTTAWA Vernissage

Jennifer Lawton’s Ottawa

The nation's capital like you've never seen it.

Looking at Jennifer Lawton's art is like looking at Ottawa through electric 3-D glasses.

This artist has harnessed an undercurrent, a cacophony of colour and character in a series of photo-paintings depicting Ottawa's unique architecutre, activities, neighbourhoods and people.

"Lawton creates with a fearless verve, an arresting vibrancy that makes the viewer do a double take and say, 'yeah, I was there. I saw that, but not like this," says Don Monet. "She scratches the surface and discovers this vein of energy and light in the simplest city-scape."

Lawton takes large scale photographs, using them as her "multi-hued canvas of refracted, reflected and warped light, onto which I apply acrylic paint," she says. "I enhance the colour to create an emotion, a spark or some pizzazz that I tease to the surface of a scene." The canvases are finished with a layer of epoxy resin.

An award-winning artist of great talent, Lawton's work will be on display in a solo show from Oct. 5-31.

Previews: Oct. 5, 6 & 7.

Vernissage and meet the artist, Thurs. Oct. 7, 5-9 pm This event will be catered by Octogon Catering who specialize in Moroccan and Spanish Cuisine.

The artist has recently accepted a position with Lakehead University, as a teacher for the Faculty of Education – teaching art teachers how to teach art.  Lawton received the this years Mayor's Choice Award at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition.
